What happened

Solstice reported second-quarter net sales of $1,148 million, up 11% year-over-year, with double-digit growth reported in Nuclear, Electronic Materials, Refrigerants, and Healthcare Packaging. Adjusted EBITDA reached $290 million for a margin of 25.3%, while adjusted diluted EPS came in at $0.88. Operating cash flow for the first half was $461 million, translating to free cash flow of $248 million. Management raised full-year 2026 guidance across all key metrics, with the adjusted EBITDA midpoint now above the prior high end. The print directly answers the margin and momentum checkpoints flagged in our prior review, with nuclear backlog conversion and electronics demand both showing through.

Implication

The strong Q2 performance validates our base-case and reduces downside risk, particularly the margin stabilization and electronics momentum we needed to see. The raised full-year guidance signals management's confidence in continued demand across nuclear and electronic materials, as well as improving operational leverage. However, the pending Element Solutions acquisition remains a significant binary, with post-close leverage still around 3.5x, and synergy realization still back-end loaded. While the standalone execution is clearly improving, the stock's recent decline to the mid-$50s already partially discounts deal risk, and further upside likely requires both sustained organic momentum and successful integration. Maintain WAIT with a positive bias; an entry near $52 would offer a better margin of safety, but the improving fundamentals warrant an upward revision in our re-assessment window.

Thesis delta

The Q2 results directly address the two critical near-term uncertainties: margin pressure and electronics demand sustainability. With adjusted EBITDA margin at 25.3% and guidance raised above prior consensus, the standalone earning power is strengthening. This reduces the probability of our bear case and pulls forward the timing for a potential upgrade if the Element deal progresses smoothly.
